I had had my eye on Jim for a while (who wouldn't!), but had never gotten up the nerve to talk to him during our boxing classes we attended together. When our quarterly graduation celebration rolled around I knew this was going to be my opportunity to make a move! That Saturday evening I went in with a plan to scope out the situation and find out if he was dating anyone, so as soon as I knew he was single I made my move and stole his car keys for the evening and continued to flirt with him throughout the night (YEP- I made the first move and I have pictures to prove it!). Later that evening when it was time for the bar to close, Jim came up and asked for his keys and I asked for a ride home. The next day he had a soccer game and after his game he called and left me a voice message to see if I wanted to hang out and, of course, I left him on edge until Monday evening when he came over and we had dinner together at my apartment! Neither one of us ever formally said, "Will you go out with me", but we both knew the dinner we shared together that night would be the first of many! Since that day on March 5, 2007 we have practically spent every moment together and Jim is with out a doubt my best friend and the only person I could imagine spending the rest of my life with...the rest is history!
It was the traditional Memorial Day weekend visit to Warren, Ohio to visit James' family and I had no idea what was in store for me that weekend. I should begin by saying that Jim and I had talked about marriage in the past (probably as soon as 6 months after we started dating), but I was convinced he wasn't ready to "take the plunge" yet! Then shortly after his older brother, John, was married we started talking dates and had decided that we would like to get married in February (possibly 2010). I have always known that he loved me and he had told me on several different occasions that I was "the one", but as the months passed my hopes of getting married in February 2010 dwindled. So, as you can imagine, I was shocked when he proposed at home on May 24, 2010.
Next Page >>We were following the normal routine that takes place every Memorial Day holiday that we come home, but things became slightly suspicious as his father walked through the door with a FedEx package for Jim that had just been delivered (NOTE: I later found out that he specifically told his mom and dad that he was expecting an overnight package with my ring and if they received it, not to let me know about it). Well...Mr. Zador definitely let the "cat out of the bag", but Jim and his sister-in-law, Lindsay, came up with a quick plan to tell me that Lindsay had purchased Buffalo Bill's season tickets and didn't want John to find out about it, so she sent them in Jim's name and I TOTALLY bought it!
<< Previous Page Next Page >>The next day, Sunday, May 24th, was just like any other day at the Zador household, we ate breakfast and hung out at the house until we went over the Grandma and Grandpa Wertz's house for a Memorial Day cookout. After spending the afternoon over there, we ventured back to the house and Jim and I made our way up to his old bedroom to hang out. We sat around and talked for a few minutes and I began to tell him how this trip to Warren was different from any other trip I had taken here. I explained that I really felt like I was a part of the Zador family and that this trip and visit was the most comfortable I had felt there since we started dating...it felt like HOME to me. Right in the middle of my heartfelt conversation he up and leaves as if he hadn't heard a word I said, only to return a few seconds later with a small black box that he plopped in front of me and said, "here". I was so excited I couldn't contain myself and I burst into tears of joy before he could even say anything! I opened the box and it was the most beautiful ring that Jim could have ever picked, he then said, "well..." and I told him that he hadn't officially asked me yet. So, with a little quiver in his voice he said "will you marry me?" and of course I said "YES!". It was the perfect proposal and I wouldn't change a thing about it because it was exactly how Jim wanted to do it...at home in Warren, Ohio with all of his family to share it with.
